Mason and Hailey celebrated their wedding day surrounded by family and friends during a beautiful spring evening in Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks. Their day was simple, relaxed, and focused on what mattered most to them: being together with the people they love.
Like a lot of Outer Banks weddings, the weather had a personality of its own that day. The wind picked up a little more than expected, so the ceremony plans shifted from the beach to the backyard of their beach house rental. Honestly, it ended up being the perfect setting. With everyone gathered close together and the ocean just beyond the dunes, the ceremony felt incredibly personal and intimate.
Even with the stronger wind, the Outer Banks still delivered an absolutely gorgeous evening for wedding photography. After the ceremony, we headed out onto the beach in Kill Devil Hills for wedding party portraits and sunset photos of Mason and Hailey together along the shoreline.
The conditions actually made the experience even better.
Hailey’s dress and veil caught the ocean breeze beautifully, and the late afternoon sunlight gave us some incredible moments on the beach. One of my favorite things about photographing Outer Banks weddings is that no two evenings are ever the same. Sometimes the wind, waves, and light all come together to create something you could never plan in advance, and this wedding was a perfect example of that.
Their beach portraits felt natural and effortless. Mason and Hailey spent the entire session smiling, laughing, and enjoying every minute together while the waves rolled in behind them. Those candid moments are always the images couples end up loving the most because they capture the feeling of the day instead of just the timeline.
The backyard ceremony setup also turned out beautifully. Friends and family gathered around as Mason and Hailey exchanged vows beneath a floral arch with the evening sunlight pouring across the property. It was simple, elegant, and exactly what an Outer Banks wedding should feel like.
One of the things I love most about smaller one-hour wedding photography coverage is how focused the experience becomes. There’s no pressure to overcomplicate the day. Everything moves naturally, and couples are able to stay present with their guests while still creating meaningful images together.
From the emotional ceremony to the windswept beach portraits afterward, Mason and Hailey’s wedding was a reminder that some of the best Outer Banks weddings happen when couples simply embrace the moment and enjoy the experience together.
If you’re planning a wedding in Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, or anywhere on the Outer Banks, beach conditions can change quickly, but that’s part of what makes OBX weddings so memorable. Sometimes the unexpected elements create the most beautiful photographs of the entire day.
Mason and Hailey, thank you both for allowing me to be part of such a special evening. It was an honor documenting your wedding day here on the Outer Banks, and I hope these photographs always bring you back to the feeling of that windy, beautiful beach evening in Kill Devil Hills.
When I was growing up, my family would take vacations to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I remember body surfing in the waves, fishing off the piers, and building sand castles. As my life has unfolded, I have found myself lucky enough to live on the OBX with my wife, Amy, raising our young son James in the sand.
When you book your OBX wedding, it’s one of the few times during your life when your whole family comes together to join one another in celebration. I am a wedding photographer at the beach... I specialize in the immortalizing the celebration, love and new beginnings that happen on your day. My fun and relaxing style adds to the energy of the day without taking away from the stars of the show.
I have been photographing since 2001, and there are few backdrops as beautiful as our Outer Banks beaches. So, whether you’ve booked one of the huge houses in Corolla, or have nestled in the quiet corners of Rodanthe, or are enjoying views of the Hatteras Lighthouse, I’d love to talk with you about photographing your wedding. Call me, text me, or email me to get to know me a little better. Until then, peruse the galleries, and start dreaming about your OBX beach wedding!
I love Outer Banks Wedding Photography, I love being an Outer Banks Wedding Photographer and I want to love photographing your wedding as well!
