Nadean and David could not have asked for a prettier October evening for their Outer Banks beach wedding. Blue skies, warm late-day light, the ocean behind them, and a gathering of family and friends made for a beautiful ceremony right on the sand.

Nadean made her way down to the beach with her father before joining David beneath a wonderfully rustic arbor overlooking the Atlantic. With the deep blue ocean behind them and their wedding party standing alongside them, the two exchanged vows and officially began the next chapter together.

After the ceremony, we took advantage of that gorgeous October light for family photographs, wedding party photos, and portraits of Nadean and David along the beach. Fall is one of my favorite times for Outer Banks wedding photography. The softer evening light and cooler temperatures can make an already beautiful OBX beach even better.

Of course, not every photograph needed to be serious. One of my favorites from the evening happened while I was photographing Nadean and David in the background and one of the bridesmaids decided the picture could use a little something extra. She was right.

As the light faded, we finished the evening with some fun photographs with friends and family before heading into the reception for the celebration and cake cutting.

Nadean and David's wedding was a great reminder of why I love photographing weddings here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. A beautiful beach, the people you love most, and plenty of laughter is a pretty hard combination to beat.

When I was growing up, my family would take vacations to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I remember body surfing in the waves, fishing off the piers, and building sand castles. As my life has unfolded, I have found myself lucky enough to live on the OBX with my wife, Amy, raising our young son James in the sand.

When you book your OBX wedding, it’s one of the few times during your life when your whole family comes together to join one another in celebration. I am a wedding photographer at the beach...
